Just days ago, there was excitement with the glory of the angels announcing the birth of Jesus. Now, nothing but an old man who makes a proclamation. Christmas Day has come and gone. As the decorations come down, and the new year begins, what is the hope you proclaim regarding Christ?

Many words, ideas and memories come to our minds when we think about Christmas. I trust that “hope” is one of them. Hope is one of the most powerful words in our lives. We have looked back to the coming of that Hope, how it has been shared and the promise, the prophecy of it. Today it is materialized; Hope is Born.

For what do you hope? The Jewish people at the time of Jesus’ birth were hoping for physical deliverance and national restoration from God, not unlike many hope for America today. However, before the birth of Jesus, God was sending his son for something much greater. He was going to bring the hope they didn’t even realize they needed.

When was the last time you couldn’t wait to tell someone great news? You just couldn’t contain it. What about the hope that we have in Jesus? Are you keeping it to yourself, or are you excited to share it? Mary, couldn’t contain the good news she had been given. Today we look at what is called, The Magnificat.

Hope is Coming

Hope resides in the promise of the future. It is the desire and expectation for something to happen. God was silent for four hundred years, and then God made it clear, hope was not far off. It was coming, and not just for the Jewish people, but for the entire world, including you and me.

How do we show gratitude to the Lord? Maybe remembering what he has done, seeking him, calling on his name, or telling of his wondrous works comes to mind. Today we will look at an example in the New Testament where feelings of gratitude turn into actions.
